Men's Life Groups

Men's Gathering

The Men’s Gathering (MG) is a cyclical six-week series focused on providing a space for men to establish helpful friendships, growth in their understanding of God, and a discovery of their God given mission and purpose.

Spring Session begins Monday, April 12, 2010

What: Dinner, worship, teaching, and small group discussion
Time: Mondays, 6pm - 8pm
Place: 2435 Colorado Blvd
Dinner: Served at 6pm with a $3 donation
Topic: "Red Letter Wisdom" - In this study we will seek to better understand and implement the wisdom of Christ in our efforts to live a life fueled by the glory of God.

Men On a Mission

Men on a Mission The men of CA will be engaging in kingdom outreach events this year, and we would love for you to join us. Each of these opportunities will provide a chance to serve with our hands as well as our hearts.  Check back for upcoming events!


Adventure Retreats


In the spring of 2010 the men of CA will be hitting the road for fun, adventure, growth and friendship. Adventure retreats will provide guys an opportunity to be with other men for an extended period of time around a shared adventure (fishing, backpacking, golf & Island excursions). Each retreat will provide a clear path forward for any guy that would like to engage in on-going relationships within the context of a life group. Space will be very limited so be quick to respond when registration opens.

Fly Fishing

This trip will be taking us into the Eastern Sierra’s where we will enjoy fly-fishing in the Lower Owens River near Bishop, California. All levels of proficiency in this art form of fishing are welcome, but gear will not be provided. We are excited to meet God in this beautiful setting and along the way share some great memories together.

Information:

  • Trip dates: March 19-21.  We plan to be home in the afternoon of the 21st.
  • Cost = $70.00 - covers lodging and food
  • Total spots: 10 (Registration by non-refundable payment only)
  • Suggested gear: Fly rod and real, tackle, boots, waders and plenty of warm clothes
  • You will need to have a fishing license.
  • Lodging will be in a house but quarters will be minimal and thus most of us will be sleeping on the floor – bring a mat

Itinerary:

  • Depart early Friday morning March 19th from the church to head to Bishop. Carpools will be arranged.
  • After setting things up at the house, we will head out for some afternoon fishing
  • Friday night group session – sharing our stories.
  • Saturday – breakfast & morning session.
  • Saturday – a full day of fishing
  • Saturday night dinner and group session
  • Sunday morning closing session, clean up and head for home.

 

Golf Getaway
This adventure will be taking us to the beautiful town of Morro Bay. In addition to enjoying some great golf and beautiful scenery, we are anticipating some significant encounters with God and each other as we set these days aside to focus on becoming men more deeply committed to Christ.

Information:

  • Trip dates: March 26-28.  Depart March 26th at 8:30am and return March 28th early afternoon.
  • Cost = $250.00  - Covers food, lodging, & golf.
  • Total spots: 9 (Registration by non-refundable payment only)
  • All levels of golfers are welcome
  • Lodging – private homes in Morro Bay (homes are next door to each other)

Itinerary:

  • Depart the church Friday, March 26th at 8:30am – carpooling will be arranged.
  • Play first round of golf at Avila Beach (18 hole regulation) at 1:30pm
  • Friday night – opening group session
  • Saturday Morning breakfast & group session
  • Saturday late morning golf at Morro Bay (18 hole regulation)
  • Saturday night dinner and evening session
  • Sunday morning, March 28 closing session and head home.


Sespe Wilderness Hike
There are few better ways to grow some new friendships than by walking a trail for multiple miles together. This adventure will take us through the Sespe Wilderness just outside of Fillmore, CA. Taking in God’s amazing creation & eating and sharing stories around the camp fire is sure to produce some fond memories as well as significant markers in our spiritual journey. Information:

  • Trip dates: May 14-16
  • Cost = $50.00 – covers food & permits
  • Total spots: 10 (Registration by non-refundable payment only)
  • Required Equipment:
  • Bible & notebook
  • Large backpack
  • Sleeping bag & pad
  • Water bladder/bottles (2 MSR hand pump filters will be available)
  • Sunscreen

If you are unable to buy/borrow any required equipment, please contact Daniel Reedy (Mobile: 626.394.6564).  The equipment list is not comprehensive; it's just meant to call out the more uncommon items that may require some advance planning.

  • Optional Equipment:
  • Tent
  • Water/rock sandals & swim trunks
  • Fishing tackle


Itinerary:

  • Friday: Meet early Friday morning, May 14th at the church. We will carpool on the drive to the trailhead (approx 2 hours). Hike in to Shady Camp from Dough Flat trailhead. Distance/duration: 7.4 miles/5 hours. This pace assumes several water/snack breaks. Arrive at campsite mid-afternoon, set up camp and relax. After dinner, we will have a time of group prayer and study.
  • Saturday: Begin with a hearty breakfast, a time of group prayer and study. Midday options include exploring the Sespe River, fishing, or taking a side trip to the hot springs.
  • Sunday: We’ll have breakfast, meet as a group for the last time of study and prayer and break camp. By late morning, we intend to be on the trail to hike back out to Dough Flat trailhead the same way we came in. Our plan is to be home in the afternoon on the 16th.



Santa Barbara Island Adventure

This excursion in the middle of the Pacific promises to be epic on every level. We will have opportunities to fish, kayak, snorkel, spear fish and hike. We will be staying at a campsite on Santa Barbara Island, which is a very remote island with lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery. This setting will provide us with a great backdrop for this weekend focused on growing our lives in Christ.


Information:

  • Trip dates: July 22-25
  • Cost = $150.00 - covers food, water, kayak, boat transportation & camp fee.
  • Total Spots: 24 (Registration by non-refundable payment only)
  • This will be a physically rigorous trip.
  • Available activities include hiking, fishing, kayaking and snorkeling.
  • There is a four-hour boat ride so if you get sea sick this trip is not for you.
  • Snorkeling & Kayaking: You will need to provide your own 5 to 7mm wetsuit (rentals at Sport Chalet) a good mask and fins.
  • This Island is home to thousands of seals thus providing amazing viewing

  • Thursday night get-to-know you group session

  • Saturday breakfast – prayer and private reflection
  • Day excursions
  • Saturday night group session
  • Sunday morning, July 25 closing session then pack up and head home
