INTERN AT CA

We believe that God's grace compels us to "lead spiritually convinced and unconvinced people to complete commitment to Jesus Christ." As a part of that, we are committed to identifying, training, and releasing dynamic leaders for the purposes of God in our church, our city, and our world. One of the ways that we do that is through CA Internships. Our internships allow emerging leaders of any age to step into greater places of responsibility while simultaneously receiving a higher level of hands on coaching from our staff.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long are CA internships?
2 years

What if I can only do 1 year?
Throughout our time working with interns, we have found that 2 years is optimal for people to actually begin to lead well and learn well from leading well. While we will consider making exceptions for a very motivated candidate who would like to do a 1 year internship, our experience has shown that both the intern and the church are better served through a 2 year commitment.

What are the requirements for the internship?
10 hours per week of service at CA and regular meetings with your supervisor (the frequency to be determined by you and your supervisor).

Can I get school credit for my internship?
Yes, but you will need to work out all the details between Christian Assembly and your school.

What schools do you work with?
We welcome any school you are attending. We've had interns from Fuller Seminary, Azusa Pacific University, Biola Univeristy - just to name a few. The school does NOT need to be a Christian school and it can be an undergraduate or a graduate level.

Do I have to be a student to do the internship?
No

Is the internship paid?
No

What areas of service at CA are open for internships?
Generally, all areas of ministry at Christian Assembly are available for internship, but you will need to contact the department head to confirm. Our ministries include: Kids, Middle School Students, High School Students, Young Adults, Men's ministry, Women's ministry, Worship, First Impressions, Creative Arts/Media, Life Groups, The Café, Recovery Ministries, Local outreach, International outreach, and Sports Ministries.

I'd like to apply for an internship. What are my next steps?
Decide where you'd like to serve at CA and contact the department head to see if an internship is available. You can call the church office at 323-255-1421 to get the contact information for each department.

FOR EXAMPLE:
Denise has been coming to CA for about a year and is attending Occidental college where she has an internship requirement for her degree. She decides that she wants to do an internship at CA. Denise then checks with Occidental College to see what requirements they have for her internship and determines that it would work to intern at CA.

Denise has been attending Women's Bible Study and is very interested in working with women in her internship. She sets up an initial meeting with the department head and after talking together, they both decide that Denise would be a good fit for working with the Women's Ministry. They decide together that Denise's 10 hours per week will be divided up between leading a table at Women's Bible Study, helping to plan the spring Women's retreat, and (because Denise has a particular talent for communication and writing) helping to write the Women's Bible Study study guide. Denise and her supervisor decide to meet once a month to talk about how her internship is progressing and how Denise is growing spiritually and in leadership.

Once the details are determined, Denise communicates this to Occidental and completes any paperwork that they require. She continues to be the liaison between Occidental and CA throughout her entire internship.

On Being An Intern...

"In my internship I have learned more about being led by the Spirit, and how to discern God's call on my life."
~ Jonathan McCracken, 33

"The Cohort has been a great way for me to learn from senior leaders at CA about ministry. I've gained extremely practical training through serving at CA and meeting regularly with the leadership cohort. It offered a rare chance to closely interact and get coaching from CA's great leadership. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn the nuts and bolts of leadership in a local church."
~Bronson Hill, 28
