  • Serve meals, hand out hygiene packs & pray with the homeless via Union Rescue Mission & Oasis of Hollywood
  • And more!

Stories from Urban Plunge...

"Urban Plunge rocked me. One highlight was spending Saturday afternoon in a park in Watts. We met and prayed for people in the park - families, singles, kids - while they waited in line for some hot dogs and drinks and listened to the worship band. I will forever remember their faces, the smile of the little girl so innocent and full of life, the tears in her mom's eyes after praying for them, Juan's hesitancy for prayer, yet open gratefulness for it, dancing with the kids to the worship music...

We filled their boxes, bags, and grocery carts with food and canned goods to take home. There was no limit to how much they were 'allowed' to take, no bounds on what we could give them. I felt the Lord say, 'See, Cara, my love is extravagant. There is no limit to it, no bounds, nothing too much for those I love.' Extravagant love. I am overwhelmed..."

“Urban Plunge was great, and I’m finally seeing that these little weekends are just a taste of what God is doing and how we can get involved.  God is moving Christian Assembly out of our comfort zone and it is more than just one weekend.  There is a post plunge possibility here, a residual fruit if you will.  This is what I am really excited about for our church and our city, the ripple effect.”

--Leland Jeppesen

"What was reinforced for us was the idea that God was already in this city and in this neighborhood and in these families, doing His work through members of the community, and we were there to witness and partner with the process at work."

--Jessie Mobley

"To me, the Urban Plunge was like a seed that was planted in my heart that the Lord will use to lead me to serve him not just on a weekend but on a daily basis."

--Daniella Ruvalcaba

One Person's Story...

“I can't explain how the Urban Plunge changed me. I can only say that I see people differently now.

I met a little boy named Brian at Oasis of Hollywood when we were teamed up for the sponge relay. He reminded me of kids in my neighborhood who I usually ignore because I'm too busy.

I met Lola, a 19 year old transplant from Florida, at the Downtown Women's Shelter. She smiled at us shyly as we talked about her extra work and made plans to meet up sometime to talk more about how to connect in such an isolating city.

I prayed with Sullivan for his music career while we were walking the streets in Hollywood, learning to evangelize.

Before, these people may have been just faces to me. But they are real. I got to see Jesus in them and it was beautiful. All that I can say is that I'm different now. I know because on my lunch break today, I saw a man who I may have called ‘homeless’ on Friday. But that wasn't my first thought today. I thought, ‘Oh, there's a man. I wonder what his story is.’”
