God has forever changed the life...
God has forever changed the life of one of the members of the CA community, Sarah Obermeyer, as she has been the hands and feet of Jesus to orphaned children of Haiti....
In 1998, I stepped off the plane in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and I felt like I was home. I had an interest and a love for Haiti early in my life and I know now that it was because serving in Haiti is something that God designed me to do. When I said "yes" to the very first trip, I had no idea the way that Haiti would change my life and grow my faith and trust in God.
In the last 10 years I have worked in Haiti doing medical clinics, caring for abandoned and ill babies, caring for people in a wound clinic and delivering babies in a birth center. God has shown me more of Himself through the people of Haiti and through the powerful faith they have in a big God.
Mislande is a one-year old little girl that I met over Christmas this past year while working at the Missionaries of Charity's Children's Home in Port-au-Prince. She weighs around 6 pounds and has struggled to get the nutrition she needs - partly because her grandmother who cares for her, has limited resources in a country whose food prices are rising, and partly because the HIV virus that her mother passed on to her creates a poor appetite in little Mislande. She also had difficulty sleeping and would rarely get more than a few minutes of sleep at a time. Mislande just needed to be held - when she knew she was being cared for, she began to eat and fall asleep on my lap. By simply being present with her, I was able to give Mislande exactly what she needed.
Through the past 10 years I have had a more keen awareness of the way that God shapes our experiences and our lives to fit the plans he has created us for. When God stirs in you to go, whether it be to your neighbor across the street, or downtown LA, or another culture, say "Yes!" His desire is to use you - exactly who you are with the gifts you have.
